DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SUSTAINABLE TOURISM AND RESPONSIBLE TOURISM
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SUSTAINABLE TOURISM AND RESPONSIBLE TOURISM
That the environment is radically changing can be seen around us. The disappearance of animals and species, the increasingly unpredictable nature are evident signs of change. Various crops are disappearing, and people in developing countries are dying from lack of food.
We see it everywhere. The land and glaciers are getting smaller and smaller. The flora and fauna seem to be changing (and not in a good way). So concrete actions are needed to protect the environment, our future follows.
Also traveling in recent years, also thanks to new technologies and the most recent products, have opened new possibilities to our daily life, have created and also create a disaster for our environment. And that is why people are changing their way of traveling, seeking, more and more, ecological ways and also respectful of the populations they go to visit.
Let’s start from the fact that in common language the difference between responsible tourism and sustainable tourism is only a nuance and the terms are now synonymous, but originally the two words indicated different aspects. Instead, we believe it is necessary to distinguish the word ecotourism, and we will see why. Responsible tourism initially assessed the ethical impact of tourism on the local population and its economic and social development, while sustainable tourism considered the impact of tourism on the environment, therefore pollution and environmental degradation linked to tourism.
Today the principles of sustainability include those of responsibility and vice versa. The 3E rule developed in an Anglo-Saxon environment can be considered valid: Economy, Ethics and Environment.
