Stay in the UK (‘settled status’): step by step
With the exit from the European Union of the United Kingdom, many rules for staying in the United Kingdom have also changed, having a permit is one of these rules.
If you are from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein, you and your family may be able to apply for the EU Settlement Scheme to continue living in the UK. You may also be able to apply if you are a family member of an eligible person from Northern Ireland.
The deadline for most people to apply for the EU settlement regime was June 30, 2021.
If you or your family are from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein, you can still apply if you or a family member lived in the UK by 31 December 2020. You also need to: meet one criteria for a later deadline to apply have “reasonable reasons” not to apply by June 30, 2021
You can also apply if you already have a pre-established status and are applying for regular status.
You may be able to stay in the UK without applying, for example if you are an Irish citizen or already have a permanent permit to enter or stay.
If your application is successful, you will get the balance or target status.
