Bike routes combined with wine tourism
The project – already awarded – brings together hotels, companies and tour operators present in coastal municipalities and within the island
Traveling on two wheels between sea and countryside, going to taste Vernaccia and Pecorino. Or even visiting archaeological and cultural sites. All without haste, following the philosophy of “the important thing is to go”. From the province of Sassari to that of Oristano to reach Medio Campidano and South Sardinia: in this context, the first network of bike-hotels for cycle tourism was born in Sardinia (also in e-bike version with electric bikes).
The project, which has already obtained a first recognition and won the tender promoted by the scientific research and innovation agency of the Region, is called Best (Biking Experience Sardinia Tourism) and brings together sixteen hotels, including two diffused hotels, an agritourism, three excursion and bike rental company, a tour operator, a transport company and three wineries to create synergies with the agricultural supply chain.
The network develops along an itinerary that brings together 25 companies distributed in nine coastal municipalities (Alghero, Bosa, Cabras, Castelsardo, Oristano, Porto Torres, Stintino, Tresnuraghes and Villanova Monteleone) and five (Guspini, Macomer, Santu Lussurgiu, Ulà Tirso and Sassari) that preside over the innermost part of the ring whose routes will be redesigned to connect all the nodes of the network that winds its way over four different provinces: Sassari, Nuoro, Oristano and South Sardinia.
The leader of the network is the entrepreneur Guglielmo Machiavello of the Albergo diffuso Villa Asfodeli in Tresnuraghes. This is what has been defined as “a real Bike-Hotel” which for several years has oriented a large part of its activity towards cycle tourism, involving some of the partners present in the network today.
The strong point of the project is the link with the agricultural sector. It is no coincidence that the presence of the wineries of Alghero, Oristano and Planargia becomes important, which with their doc products, Torbato, Vernaccia and Malvasia, represent three different territories.
