PORTO POLLO
In the center of the northern coast of the island there is a town home to windsurfing enthusiasts, a beach with a bizarre shape and dazzling shades, with a clear sea, always caressed by the wind
An inlet with turquoise water and fine white sand, completely surrounded by Mediterranean scrub shrubs. Halfway between Palau and Santa Teresa Gallura, near the mouth of the Liscia, Porto Pollo (in Gallura Portu Puddu) joins the mainland to the beautiful I sola dei Gabbiani (or Isuledda) with a thin sandy tongue. The two ‘beaches-isthmus’ – the second is called the Sandstone – fan out with dunes covered with lavender, mastic and juniper and are a natural gym for water sports. The town is constantly beaten by the wind, sometimes strong, so it is a particularly popular destination for sailors and windsurfers and kite surfers. On one side or the other of the bay, there will be, alternatively, ideal conditions for surfing or flat sea. For those who have windsurfing in their soul, wind in their hair, full sail and wake on the waves will be the constant of the holiday. Also in the nearby town of Barrabisa. While for the less sporty or for those looking for relaxation, here are relaxing days and poetic sunsets, sheltered from winds.
The bay is very busy. It has a large parking area, also suitable for campers, and accessible to the disabled. Thanks to the shallow water it is suitable for children to play. You can rent umbrellas and boats. There is also a windsurfing and sailing school. Bars, restaurants, hotels and campsites are immersed in sheltered rocky coves surrounded by the colors and smells of the Mediterranean scrub, a characteristic feature of the Gallura coast. Do not miss the opportunity to explore all 18 hectares of the naturalistic paradise of Isola dei Gabbiani, and in the vicinity, do not miss a visit to the other treasures of Palau: the indomitable beauty of Punta Sardegna, the exotic features of C ala Trana, the splendid Porto Faro and the natural monument of the Bear’s Rock. Before your gaze, the panorama offered by the islands of the Maddalena archipelago will open up.
