An experience in the interior of Sardinia, Trenino Verde starts again
The tourist trip of the Trenino Verde of Sardinia restarts with a new program defined between the Region and Arst, the regional transport company, which operates on the longest tourist network in Europe, over 438.7 kilometers.
A journey back in time aboard vintage carriages pulled by the “littorine" of the 50s or by the Lde501 railcars of the 60s. The 1918 steam locomotive is still stopped for maintenance, whose restoration (with the reconstruction of the boiler to bring it into line with the rules) should be completed by the autumn.
The travel calendar for 2022 runs from March to December with five different proposals. On Sundays we travel alternately in southern Sardinia from Mandas to Laconi and from Mandas to Seui, while in Ogliastra, between Arbatax and Gairo, starting after Easter and then weekends until September.
The Mandas-Arbatax line is still broken in two due to the extraordinary maintenance on three metal bridges between Seui and Ulassai, built over 130 years ago.
On one of these the works have been completed, while on the other two they have been blocked, immediately after the assembly of the scaffolding, due to the termination of the 600 thousand euro contract by the company.
“Now we are providing for a new assignment – the director of the ARST Carlo Poledrini explains to ANSA – and we hope to be able to reopen the entire section next year".
This is, in fact, one of the most loved connections by tourists: 159 km of line – the longest in Italy – which crosses the Gennargentu massif, in the midst of unspoiled nature, between isolated views and valleys on the Flumendosa lake, crossing some inland villages and passing by nuragic villages to then arrive on the Ogliastra coast.
An experiential journey to discover Sardinia from the inside.
For 2022, routes have also been planned in the north of the island: always on Sundays in Gallura, between Tempio and Palau (150 km up to Sassari) which passes over Lake Liscia, and from mid-May on Macomer-Bosa (46 km) , where the initial routes will take place on sections of the lines due to the presence of work sites.
