The Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup
The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS), founded by His Highness Aga Khan in 1967, is an iconic institution in the world of sailing, located in Porto Cervo, Sardinia. As the season comes to a close, YCCS is hosting some of its most prestigious regattas.
The Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup (8-14 September 2024) is a highlight event, showcasing an impressive fleet that ranges from classic yachts like the 1938 Baruna to cutting-edge designs such as the Wally 101 Y3K. This regatta, now in its 34th edition, also includes catamarans, following their successful debut in 2023. Following this is the Rolex Swan Cup (15-21 September 2024), a biennial event celebrating a 40-year partnership between YCCS and Nautor Swan. This year, new additions like the ClubSwan 43 and 28 will make their debut.
The YCCS has always placed a strong emphasis on sustainability, and all regattas in 2024 adhere to environmental initiatives like the Clean Regattas program. Advanced technologies, such as MarkSetBot robotic buoys, are used to reduce the ecological impact of the races.
After these major events, the season wraps up with the Etchells European Championship from 1-6 October. This class of one-design keelboats will bring fierce competition to Porto Cervo.
The club’s history is rich with elite partnerships, including long-standing collaborations with Rolex, Southern Wind, and more, alongside its commitment to environmental responsibility, making it a unique hub for luxury sailing and maritime culture【12†source】【13†source】【14†source】.
