Escala del Cabirol
Between the cliffs of the Capo Caccia promontory in Alghero, there is a breathtaking staircase that will lead you to the mysterious Neptune’s Caves. It is called Escala del Cabirol which in Catalan means scale of the roe deer, due to the particular conformation of the scale, which brings to mind the roe deer that lived on the impervious peaks of this region of Sardinia.
Escala del Cabirol
The Escala del Cabirol, in the north west of Sardinia, was built in 1954 to offer access to the Neptune Caves which until then were only accessible by sea. It is a marvel carved into the rock made up of 656 steps that descend to the sea. The path is not tiring, especially because you will be constantly motivated by the blue of the sea and the green of the vegetation to be admired in the bay.
From here the view is spectacular, the best time to walk them is at sunset when the reflections accentuate the wonder before your eyes. Entrance to the staircase is free.
How to get
Escala del Cabirol can be reached by taking the coastal road that passes from Alghero to Fertilia and continuing along the SP 127 / bis which runs along the entire coastal strip of the long promontory. The road leads to the rocky spur of Capo Caccia where the staircase begins.
