Cantina Siddura
Cantina Siddura
Siddùra, which in Gallura means “saddle", from the shape of the hills on which the rows of vineyards that surround Luogosanto climb, a splendid historic and sacred ancient center of Gallura, in north-eastern Sardinia steeped in history so ancient as to go back to the Nuraghi.
Siddùra, an ever growing winemaking reality, in a particular area of the island of Sardinia, Gallura.
The estate is immersed in a valley surrounded by woods, with steep and difficult to cultivate land.
But it is precisely the slopes and the type of soil, poor, with granitic decay, to give the intense character to the wines produced.
Vermentino di Gallura, Cannonau, Cagnulari, also international wines and a passito for a production of 250 thousand bottles and which boasts an enviable record of medals won in the most important international competitions.
.
Siddùra was born from the fusion between entrepreneurial experience and passion: founded and owned in 2008 by the Gottesdiener family and managed by Massimo Ruggero, it represents the realization of a dream of international character and which immediately produces a line of nine wines of the highest quality.
Siddùra, which in Gallura means “saddle", from the shape of the hills on which the rows of vineyards climb, was born by collecting the legacy of an ancient wine production that already in the fifties of the last century was bottling Vermentino to be sold on the nearby and flourishing market on the island of La Maddalena.
Forty hectares of vineyards that give life to a collection of nine wines: the Vermentini di Gallura Spèra, Maìa and Bèru, the Nudo rosato cannonau, the cannonau – DOC and Riserva – Èrema and Fòla, the Cagnulari Bàcco, the international Tìros and the passito Nùali.
The production philosophy is based on the belief that wine production begins in the vineyard, the wine being a true reflection of its terroir. This consideration affects all aspects of production: limited harvests to ensure the highest quality, selective harvesting by hand, micro vinification and aging in the best oak barrels built in France.
“The wine entrepreneur – says Massimo – is not the one who produces millions of bottles but the one who manages to convey, with every taste, the passion of living the land through wine". And it is here, set in the earth, that the underground cellar develops where the entire production chain takes place, from grapes to bottles, favoring spontaneous fermentations and using different types of containers.
In Gallura, land of the DOCG, an attempt is being made to dispel the myth of Vermentino as a wine to drink within the year. “Vermentino can be long-lived," says Ruggero, indicating in aging, albeit limited, a value and not a defect.
After all, the contamination between old and new, between tradition and experimentation, between old dogmas and small revolutions, represent the main way for the promotion of an authentic product and with it of a land that is unique in the world: the Sardinia.
The particular predisposition of the granitic decaying soils for red berried grapes is surprising. In the line of Siddùra references there are four red wines: two Cannonau -Doc and Riserva-, a pure Cagnulari and an international blend, Tìros, capable of fascinating world palates and for this reason included in the top 100 of the best wines in the world.
Siddùra’s desire to amaze has gone beyond the classic boundaries to create a Cannonau rosé, Nudo, highly awarded and highly sought after and a Moscato Doc, the Nùali, a masterpiece of balance for a sweet and never cloying wine indicated (right at the beginning of 2021) “the wine of the year” from the prestigious Decanter world competition.
All that remains is to wait for the summer to organize a wine exp live to discover such a wonderful agricultural and ancient production site, like the one that surrounds the Ghjuanni Mountains, where the “meeting hut" stands out, a nuragic site still intact.
